The YMCA provides kids the opportunity to participate in programs that keep them happy, healthy and having fun all year-long. At the Y, our leagues are more than just a game. Not only will kids learn new skills and gain self-confidence, they will learn how to be healthier athletes - on and off the field - after every practice with Healthy Kids. The YMCA follows State and County Public Health guidelines to keep all of us safe.

SOCCER - FALL - YOLO

Soccer is a great choice for youth sports for many reasons. Because there is very little equipment needed, your investment as a parent isn’t a barrier to entry. But more importantly, it’s a game with simple rules that children can grasp from an early age.

Our YMCA soccer program is a developmental league that meets the athlete where he or she is and builds their skills from there. Whether their first season is at age 3 or age 13, YMCA coaches will help them get in the game and enjoy their experience.

Who: 3 year olds – 13 year olds. The 3 and 4 year-old division is coed, the rest are by gender. The U12 and U14 divisions may combine and/or go coed dependent upon registration numbers.

When: Practices start the week of September 2nd. Games start  September 7th and last through October 26th. Games are on Saturdays and practices are one evening a week. Practice day and time is dependent on the volunteer coach.

Where: Practices are in city parks around Woodland.

Coaches: Volunteer Coaches needed, please consider volunteering.

Register: $124 for YMCA members and $144 for Community Members. A new multisport jersey is required and will be an additional $24.52 and is ordered through a third party vendor. FAQ's

When will I know when my child’s practice is?

Practice is one weekday evening per week. Practice may be on Sunday afternoon for basketball, dependent upon registration numbers. Practice usually takes place from 4:00 to 8:00pm and is 45 - 60 min in length. The day and time will be chosen by the volunteer coach at the coach meeting. The coach meeting is generally scheduled to take place the week before practice is set to start. At the coach meeting they will be instructed to reach out to their rosters and relay all of the season information and practice schedule.

I did not get my practice time request.

The teams are formed before the coaches have picked their practice times. So we are unable to honor practice time requests until after the coach meeting. If your child gets placed on a team that practices at a time you cannot make, email sports@ymcasuperiorcal.org to see if there is space on a team that practices when you and your child are available.

Can I request that my child be on their friend's team?

We allow player requests but we do not allow coach/ team requests. Requests need to be mutual. Meaning the parent of child 1 puts down the name of child 2 and the parent of child 2 puts down the name of child 1 during the registration process. Additionally, we try to keep our league as equitable and inclusive as possible, by trying to keep requests to half a team max. We feel this promotes equity because it prevents teams from getting "stacked" with players that have more experience. And it promotes inclusion because now children from a different background can work together through random assignments.

Do you have paid coaches?

The YMCA is a volunteer organization, and all of the coaches for our team sports are volunteers. They can be parents or members of the community. All of our coaches are required to get Livescan fingerprinting and complete concussion training. For our smaller classes, such as Peewee sports and Esports, we use a qualified and trained staff member.

What is the commitment of being a coach?

The commitment of coaching is one practice and one game per week for the duration of the 8 week sport season. The YMCA will supply the equipment and any training materials you may need, including practice plans. If you are interested in coaching, please email sports@ymcasuperiorcal.org.

If my child is assigned to a team without a coach, what will happen to that team?

The YMCA puts in a lot of effort to recruit volunteer coaches before the season starts. However, due to the high number of registrations each season, there are times when we have teams that don't have a coach for the first week of practice. In such cases, a dedicated YMCA staff member steps in to coach the first practice while we continue our search for a coach. Rest assured, we have never had to cancel a whole team because we always manage to find a coach. Sometimes, we even work with two volunteers to accommodate everyone's schedules. So, you can be confident that we always strive to ensure every registered participant gets to play, and we have never had to issue refunds due to a lack of a coach.

What equipment will my child need?

The only sports with an equipment requirement are soccer and flag football. Soccer requires that your child wear shin guards during both practices and games. Flag football requires that your child wear a mouthguard during practices and games. For everything else, general athletic wear and athletic shoes are all your child needs. If you are in need of financial assistance to provide these pieces of equipment for your child, please contact sports@ymcasuperiorcal.org.

My YMCA account is not working, and I cannot register my child.

If you are having trouble logging into your existing YMCA account please email member services, or call the front desk of the YMCA and they can send you a password reset link.

Oroville: 530-533-9622

Rollingwood: 916-988-1727

Sacramento: 916-542-9622

Yolo: 530-666-9623

Why do I have to pay an additional amount for a jersey? In the past the price has included a shirt.

Our 2023 registration prices are lower than they were in 2022. We hope that in the long run the new jerseys we are ordering starting spring of 2023 will save family's money because you will only need to purchase one shirt for soccer, flag football, volleyball, and dodgeball. That shirt should last until the child outgrows it. We will also have one shirt for basketball, which can be used for all seasons; Winter, Summer and Fall (Fall basketball offered at Sac Y only). That shirt will last until child outgrows it.

What does my registration fee cover?

Your registration fee pays for the things you see, like equipment (balls, goals, whistles), referees. And things you don't see, such as; the cost of using the facility, insurance coverage, fingerprinting for paid staff and volunteers, and wages for support staff and administration staff. The YMCA does not want to turn anyone away due to an inability to pay, so we hope those who cannot afford the league will use our Financial Assistance program: www.ymcasuperiorcal.org/Y-assist

Why has the 2024 team sports registration fee increased from 2023?

The YMCA continues to struggle to find and keep referees. We strive to run quality programs but that's hard with the near constant turnover of our referees. For the 2024 season we will be raising the referee wages from $16/hour to $20/hour in hopes of retaining referees and competing with the fast food industry in hourly wages.

I want to apply for financial assistance. How can I do that?

To apply for financial assistance complete the Y-Assist application and drop it off at the YMCA front desk or email it to membership@ymcasuperiorcal.org. You will be contacted via email within 5 business days to confirm your qualified award. Please allow time for this to get processed BEFORE priority registration ends.

What is the deadline for requesting a full refund or credit for my child who is enrolled in a team sports program?

To receive a full refund or credit on your account, you must submit your request by the Monday following the first game of the program.

Why is there a deadline for refunds?

Our refund policy is designed to accommodate our waitlist system. By adhering to this deadline, we can efficiently fill vacant spots in the program, ensuring that every child has an opportunity to participate and preventing the loss of income from the registration.

Can I receive a partial refund if I miss the deadline?

Yes, if the request is made before the third game, you may be eligible for a prorated refund. This is subject to evaluation based on individual circumstances.

What is the policy for rain cancellation and makeup games?

We do not preemptively cancel games based on weather forecasts. Instead, we assess conditions at game time. If it is raining during the game, the referee will make the call regarding gameplay. We encourage all players to show up and attempt to play unless the conditions are too extreme. We do not schedule makeup games due to budget constraints. Each Saturday, we have referees present for all scheduled games, whether the game is played or not so we encourage teams to try to play on if the weather is mild. We do not have the budget to pay the referees for an additional game day.

What do I do if I get an error message while trying to sign up online?

Please contact the Member Service staff at the YMCA Fitness Center.  They will most likely be able to help you, or at a minimum take down information and find the answer and call you back.  The Fitness Center is open 6Am- 8PM Monday through Friday and 8AM-12 noon on Saturdays.   530-666-9623
